Clipper Mac

Clipper Mac 21 classic photo
This is my classic photo of Clipper Mac which ususally hangs wherever I have an office. The photo was taken from my other boat, Solution, off Kirkland on Lake Washington.

A guy comes into the camera store I was managing and wants to buy a Hasselblad camera system but first he must sell his sailboat. I want to own sailboat so I ask him, “how big is it?” The guy responds, “21 feet”. So I go sailing on Puget Sound with the guy and I buy his sailboat from him. The next day, the guy buys the camera system from our store. I ask, “Is the check good?” He responds, “Was your check good?” Both deals were done. So I now own a sailboat. We named her “Clipper Mac”, because she is a Clipper Marine 21-foot sloop with “McKibben” sails (now defunct).

Thank you for the info on the CM21. I found one. in beautiful shape this summer aqnd decided to get it for lake sailing. I had it out on Siltcoos Lake (Near Florence, Oregon) just once before bringing her home to Roseburg. With just the mainsail, she made over 4.5 mph (Garmin GPS). I suspect she willbe even faster than the San Juan 21 I had in the ’80′s.

One of my fondest memories about single-handling Clipper Mac was when heading north on a strong southerly (the normal off-season prevailing wind) and I placed her on wing-wing. I felt the urge to do something fun out of boredom. I left her by climbing into the sport-yak dinghy and let her tow me like a water skiier. I reversed the tiller so that it pointed aft, and extended the hiking stick. In this fashion I continued to control the helm. What a blast!!!!!!
