So a guy comes into the camera store I was managing and wants to buy a Hasselblad camera system but first he must sell his sailboat. I want to own sailboat so I ask him, “how big is it?” The guy responds, “21 feet”.
So I go sailing on Puget Sound with the guy and I buy his sailboat from him. The next day, the guy buys the camera system from our store. I ask, “Is the check good?” He responds, “Was your check good?” Both deals were done. See “Clipper Mac”
Real soon I want a larger sailboat so I buy a 23 foot sailboat. So own a “fleet” of two sailboats ! See “Clipper Mac” and “Solution” here
Now another guy wants to by my 21 footer. This guy buys it from me trading with a professional camera and cash. Then I go to Maui taking pictures with professional cameras. See professional cameras and Maui here
Guy #2 trades in my first sailboat on a 23 foot sailboat. I then sell my 23′ sailboat so now I’m boatless. I get married, and Guy #2 graciously loans us his 23-foot sailboat for our honeymoon. See Ron’s San Juan
I sell professional cameras to furnish our apartment, thus breaking the chain. Now happily married with kids, no boat, no professional cameras, but still sailing. Been chartering now and sailing with friends for the last 30 years. Time I get back into owning a boat! (See more to the store now at: http://threesheetsnw.com/jrwave/salut/ )
I knew I was in love with big water early on. While out on a fishing boat for the first time, sitting on the peak of the bow with my feet hanging over each side, I rode as we motored over the big swells over the Grays Harbor Bar. One moment I was high off the water, then my deck shoes skied on the top of the water as we sunk into each wave trough.
I have since then sailed through nearly every bight, passage and strait from Olympia to Nanaimo, fished in the Pacific Ocean off Oregon to the north of Grays Harbor, steamed out to Nantucket on the east coast, and have sailed out of historic Newport, RI.
My true boating preference is sailing. It’s quiet (and for me) sophisticated and intellectual. And sailing allows a journey while motoring provides a means to get from one point to another quickly – and noisily. But – I love power boating too!
