Land Log – Salut – Saturday Afternoon, June 24th, 2011:
About three weeks ago we took Salut out into the Seattle Ship Canal. When we powered up the motor, the motor mount practically dissolved. We nearly lost the outboard.
After giving thought about how to replace it, I looked online and found mounts coast in excess of $50 plus tax, shipping and handling. So I set about building a replacement. I used a treated 2 by 6 as a core and laminated industrial floor tile to both sides using a waterproof strong bonding glue.
|
I trimmed it to a sligh “V” shape that was a bit larger than the original size, rounded the corners and the sides. |
|
Then I applied several coats of premium black laquor paint with two coats of rubber finish (see label) |
|
Finally, I mounted the new motor mount to the hardware, loosened all the hardware fittings, applied WD40, amd tightened the entire apparatus |
|
|
| After mounting the motor on the new mount, we enjoyed a file mile cruise in the Seattle Ship Canal. The new mount held fast! |

Land Log – Salut – Sunday Afternoon, May 1st, 2011:
Moved the boat to a new slip within the marina. This slip is roomy and will be easier to enter and leave. The old slip was right up against the bulkhead of the marina, and a bit dirty.

Land Log – Salut – Sunday Afternoon, May 1st, 2011:
Fired up the outboard today. Started in three pulls! Not bad after two years of being idle. The engine mount is soft and mushy, will need to replace it. Also will cavitate as the blade does not position deep enough in the water in my opinion. The attack angle is off and needs adjustment. May need to upgrade to a long shaft. Ideally, would like a 4-stroak with an alternator. Will try to get through this season with the current motor.

Land Log – Salut – Saturday Afternoon, April 2nd, 2011:
Cherry repaired the old tattered mainsail cover and mounted a black canvas top over the top of the boom which was the most worn area. Liking the black look so much, I’m now leaning towards trimming out the boat with black items including a black stripe and transom lettering!
