Wooden Boat Wednesday with Combatant Craft of America

At a glance:
Feb. 8, 2012 | 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Northwest Maritime Center, Port Townsend

Based on their new book, “Patrol and Rescue Boats on Puget Sound,” co-authors Chuck Fowler and Dan Withers will present a pictorial history of military fast response craft from 1898 through 2010 at a Wooden Boat Wednesday event. Their talk and slide show program includes rare photos of the first steam-powered Navy patrol boat built on the Sound, Prohibition era vessels operated by the Coast Guard, and secret operations of the famed PT (patrol torpedo) boats during World War II. Uniflite-built PBRs (Patrol Boat River) and Boeing military hydrofoils built during the Vietnam War period are also featured, as are the more modern post-9/11 response boats built for the Coast Guard by SAFE Boats International and Kvichak Marine Industries. This is a FREE Event. Must register in advance for a seat: chandlery@nwmaritime.org or call 360.385-3628 ext 101
