Greg Boehme (Bayme), Past PSCC Commodore and ring-leader of The TROPCS BAND (www.tropicsband.com) presents: “The Accidental Single-hander”
The voyage from Mexico through the South Pacific had been the experience of a lifetime, but now ASIA, a 32 foot Valiant, languished 5,000 miles away in Fiji. He devised a plan to sail her back to the Pacific Northwest via Hawaii over two summers. This story is about how that plan went wrong….and right.
Single-handing has been called many things: “pretty dumb” and “the Mount Everest of sailing” come to mind. We’ll take a look at the tactics, philosophy, techniques, and lessons learned from a 2,300 solo mile voyage from Pago Pago (American Samoa) to Hilo, Hawaii.
The evening will include video footage graphically illustrating the “good the bad and the ugly” as well as the truly “other-worldly” experience of 3 weeks alone at sea.
