Port of Everett closes state’s largest boat launch for dredging
Jan 27 2010 in Short Tacks by Marty McOmber
The Port of Everett has closed the state’s largest boat ramp–the 10th Street Boat Launch–until mid-February to dredge about 30,000 cubic yards of sediment from the facility.
Last summer, the sedimentation affected operations at the boat launch. At last three lanes of the launch were closed for 22 days last year due to low tides.
The $600,000 project will dredge the bottom to ten feet below the mean lower low water level. The work will coincide with the Corps of Engineers maintenance dredging of the Lower Settling Basin in the Snohomish River Federal Navigation Channel.
“This project is essential to providing reliable boating access to the Puget Sound,” said Carl Wollebek, Chief of Operations for the Port of Everett, in a written statement. “The Port regrets any inconvenience to local boaters while this project is ongoing.”
