Slide show | ‘I just like that it always stays the same’

Marine Supply & Hardware Co. hasn’t changed much in the nearly 100 years since the chandlery opened in Anacortes to serve the area’s once thriving commercial fishing and maritime industries.
Walk inside today and you’ll hear the ring of the chime above the door as you enter. You’ll feel the sturdy planks of oiled wood underfoot. You’ll see the controlled chaos of boating gear, parts, screws, clothes, floats, charts and fenders everywhere.
And that’s just the way Steve Demopoulos intends to keep it. He owns Marine Supply & Hardware with his father, Themo. Together, they are generations two and three of a family business that has weathered a dramatically changing maritime world without changing much itself.
The fishing fleets are largely gone. So are most of the canneries and related businesses. Today, the customers are just as likely to be recreational boaters as the salted pros who made their living from the rich waters of the Pacific Northwest. But knowledge of the staff and the love of boats remains as strong as ever.
In the slide show below, Steve Demopoulos takes you on a tour of this example of our region’s living marine history.

Great story Marty. Marine Hardware & Supply is always on my “must visit” list when my wife and I sail into Anacortes. Even if I don’t really need anything, I buy something as I want to do my part and make sure they are always there. Love the staff and the vibe.
Now, the real question. Is the Dixie Rose still on the hard in the lot behind the store? and are the owners taking offers?
That was a great story Marty, I loved the slide show, very interesting!
