The Seattle Times has a follow-up story on the fate of the self-proclaimed “pirate” who stole the Victoria Clipper IV back on December 1 of last year.
Samuel K. McDonough, of Preston, Washington, who was already on parole from a prior conviction for indecent exposure, plead guilty to second-degree burglary and theft of a motor vehicle on Friday in King County. Prosecutors will seek a sentence of approximately 2 and a half years.
Contrary to prior reports that West Seattle was his destination, police statements in court indicated that McDonough actually intended to take the stolen ferry to Victoria, B.C…. a lofty goal considering his inability to control the ferry successfully even within the relatively sheltered confines of Elliott Bay.
