The Port Townsend to Coupeville ferry service is temporarily cancelled “until further notice” this evening due to police activity at the Port Townsend terminal. Currently, both boats assigned to the run are at the dock in Port Townsend. A number of police vehicles can be seen on the WSDOT Ferry Cam for Port Townsend and the waiting area appears to be cleared of other vehicles. Washington State Ferries has the following notice posted on their website:
PT/CV: Out of Service Due to Police Activity – PT 5:15pm, 6:00pm CV Cancelled
The Port Townsend/Coupeville route is currently out of service until further notice due to police activity at the Port Townsend terminal. The 5:15 pm Port Townsend departure and the 6:00 pm Coupeville departure have been cancelled. Updates will occur as conditions change. Suggested alternate route is Kingston-Edmonds.

The South Whidbey Record is reporting, as rumor suggested, that this activity was the result of an empty bomb threat sent in by text message at around 5pm on the evening of the 27th.
