Three captains abandon Deadliest Catch

Happier times? Deadliest captains share a laugh on stage at last year's CatchCon fanfest in Seattle.

Okay, this isn’t exactly local boating news, but did you hear? Apparently three of the marquee skippers on Deadliest Catch are leaving the show — including Sig Hanson and Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, which will come as a major bummer for fans of the hit Discovery Channel series.

“We have been through a lot over the past year and unfortunately given the current situation with Discovery we are unable to continue participating in ‘Deadliest Catch,’” the three crab fishermen said in a joint written statement. “It has been a fantastic ride, and we wish the best to all of the amazing and supportive ‘Catch’ fans we have met over the years.”

Apparently the tiff involves a lawsuit filed by Discovery against the Hillstrand brothers, alleging they failed to work on a spin-off special.

I guess not all the show’s drama takes place on the Bering Sea.
