Search called off for boaters reported missing

Aug 24 2009 in Short Tacks by Deborah Bach

The Coast Guard has ended its search for two boaters reported missing near Port Angeles.

A Coast Guard helicoper and three boats had been dispatched to search for the men since Friday night, covering an area of about 700 square miles. But the searched turned up no trace of Brook Bennett and Rob Larsen.

The Port Angeles Coast Guard received a call about 11 p.m. Friday from Bennett’s wife, who said her husband and his friend had left for a fishing trip at 5 p.m. and hadn’t returned. The men were reported to be fishing in a 14-foot blue and green skiff with a windshield.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Bennett and Larsen is asked to contact Coast Guard Group Port Angeles at 360.417.5840.
