My husband and I have lived in Manette now for over 34 years having bought a house built in 1912 when we were but newlyweds. I LOVE Manette and feel very protective of our area. Although we live farther up the hill from the business area I believe it is still considered Manette.I am concerned however about our little community growing too commercial and about the many old homes that have been torn down over the years to be replaced by very contemporary homes. If too much of that happens we will lose our quirky, cottagey, and old-fashioned atmosphere. When we bought our house several people said they would tear it down and build new but that would have been a shame. Our home is part of Manette history! When we started our re-model in 2005 we worked VERY hard to honor and even improve the integrity and character of our home. I have no desire to become a bedroom community to Seattle so I hope others feel the same way. Thank you for a well written article.

My girlfriend's grandfather (John Agnesani) lived in Manette for a 1/3 of his life! He was a caulker and chipper at the Bremerton shipyard for 34 years, and had a girlfriend who worked at the laundromat most of her life.

Great article, Deborah! What a wonderful little town!

Thank you, Manette readers, for your feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to write (and Karen, I do remember meeting you and hope I'll run into you again; glad you enjoyed the Dreamboat piece!). Marty and I love your little community and look forward to visiting again soon - Deborah

My compliments to the author, or should I say journalist (or co-owner of "threesheets")? What a well-written and charming article! Thank you for paying tribute to my native and appreciated community. My husband and I met you as we walked through Manette one morning, stopping to chat with Ruth who is also a neighbor. I enjoyed all your links to the Manette article, then went to the "threesheets" site and loved experiencing the Dreamboat piece. I hope we meet again, either online or in person.

Great article offering a keen insight to Manette. The Manette sub-area plan is being created with but one thing in mind - MONEY and the pipe dreams of developers, city planners and a self-aggrandizing mayor.

I love the story, it is so beautifully written and wonderfully charming, just like Manette! I am happy to be a new small business in a historic community. Residents and businesses alike have opened their hearts to me. It's a wonderful town everyone should experience!
